Financial Planning to Simplify, Connect, and Optimize Your Financial Life

We start with your life instead of your portfolio. Then we build a plan that makes the pieces of your financial picture work together. That’s what fee-only financial planning looks like when it’s done the Hamewith way.

What Is Financial Planning?

We’re often asked what financial planning is, so we’d like to make our definition clear: to us, financial planning is the practice of taking multiple areas of your financial life, analyzing them, and coordinating them with a goal of creating more advantageous outcomes. It’s comprehensive financial planning in the truest sense: retirement, taxes, investments, estate, benefits, and insurance, examined together instead of in isolation.

We build retirement projections that account for your goals, spending needs, taxes, Social Security timing, investment risk tolerance, healthcare costs, inflation, and how they all interact. Our intent is to give you confidence in your decisions as you enter the era you’ve been working towards your whole life.

We work alongside your tax professional to identify tax-saving strategies that most preparers aren’t looking for: Roth conversion windows, investment income, capital gains timing, charitable giving strategies, and gross income management across your full household. Tax preparation looks backward, tax planning looks forward.

Understanding your spending is fundamental to the financial planning process. From being able to create recommendations about your emergency fund and how much to invest, all the way to being able to confidently say that you can afford to retire the way you want, the importance of this part of financial planning cannot be overstated.

RSUs, ISOs, and NSOs each come with different tax consequences, vesting schedules, and concentration risks that some advisors aren’t equipped to navigate. We help you build a strategy around when to hold, when to sell, and how to integrate your equity compensation into your broader financial plan.

We build and manage investment portfolios using a disciplined, evidence-based approach. The investment decisions we make are in the context of your financial plan, your tax situation, and your goals. Your portfolio serves your plan, not the other way around.

In addition to managing IRAs, joint, individual, trust, and estate accounts for our clients, we can manage many employer-sponsored TSP, 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans for our clients without the funds needing to be rolled over.

Roth conversions and contributions can save you hundreds of thousands of dollars in lifetime taxes when timed correctly, but what you don’t know about these strategies can hurt you. We analyze your current and projected tax brackets year by year to identify conversion windows, and we handle the complexity of backdoor and mega backdoor strategies for high earners who’ve been told they “make too much” to contribute.

We don’t draft legal documents, but we have Accredited Estate Planner® professionals on staff to review your estate plan and see if it reflects your financial reality. Our role in estate planning is coordinating areas like beneficiary designations, trust funding, titling, and tax-efficient transfer strategies with your attorney so nothing falls through the cracks.

As emotionally intelligent planners, we also facilitate multi-generational legacy meetings to smooth out often difficult conversations.

Most people make benefits elections once a year and never think about them again, but each open enrollment period is an opportunity to see if there’s a better fit for your situation. We review your full benefits package—HSAs, FSAs, deferred compensation, group insurance, employer-sponsored retirement plans, and matching opportunities—in an effort to help you capture the value available to you.

The intersection of student loan repayment, income-driven plans, PSLF eligibility, and tax filing status creates a confusing maze that has an outsized impact on your monthly finances. We model your options and build a repayment strategy that coordinates with the rest of your financial plan instead of working against it.

We review your life, disability, liability, and long-term care coverage to make sure you’re properly protected without overpaying. Because we don’t sell insurance and earn no commissions, our only incentive is making sure you have the right coverage to help you sleep at night.

Comprehensive and Emotionally Intelligent

Hamewith Wealth was built around providing financial planning and wealth management guidance across nearly every part of your financial life. But where we set ourselves apart is in our curiosity about your relationship with money and how it impacts you on a daily basis.

From our very first meeting, we work to understand the financial reality in which you live, where you hope to be, and what barriers might stand in the way of getting there. Sometimes those barriers are technical. Sometimes they’re behavioral. Sometimes they’re barriers you’ve imposed on yourself without realizing it.

There are usually two answers to a financial question: the financially optimal answer, and the answer that works for you. We see our role as attempting to bring those two as close together as possible by creating a financial plan of action customized just for you.

Getting You Up to Speed, Quickly

We understand that you’re likely experiencing a pain point that needs attention sooner rather than later. That’s why our process was designed to get us familiar with your financial situation quickly and start making meaningful financial planning recommendations in a short period of time. You won’t spend months in “onboarding”, you’ll spend that time making progress.

Investment Management That Follows the Plan

As part of our financial planning process, we offer to manage our clients’ investments following a disciplined, evidence-based approach built on research instead of which fund company’s wholesaler takes us to play golf.

Your portfolio is built to serve your plan, not the other way around. We manage investments through Charles Schwab using tax-conscious strategies. And if your investments are in an employer-sponsored plan like a 401(k), 403(b), 457, or TSP, we might be able to manage those investments for you without the need to roll over the assets from where they are.

The result is a plan-driven investment strategy that allows you to focus on what actually matters.

Cost Based on Circumstance

We charge our clients their financial planning fee in two fee-only formats: by managing their investments and charging a fee, or by charging a flat fee for advice. Both methods have minimum fees based on household characteristics. Whether you’re looking for a fee-only investment advisor or a flat-fee financial planner, both options provide the same depth of planning.

What It Costs

We believe ardently in fee transparency. The accompanying .pdf shows exactly how we charge our clients for our financial planning and wealth management services.

Both Fee-for-Planning and Wealth Management services share the same minimum annual fee structure based on household characteristics. You can find the fee schedule and minimums in this document.

What you won’t find: commissions, product sales, 12b-1 fees, or hidden charges of any kind. We earn money one way: directly from you, for the work we do. That’s what fee-only means, and it’s the only way we operate.

What a Year Looks Like

We don’t disappear after the plan is built. The relationship has a rhythm designed to keep your financial life on track without overwhelming your calendar.

If you’re curious as to what our cadence looks like, be sure to check out this document. Please note that not all services are applicable to all households, and a different service calendar may apply to your household. If this is the case, we will have that discussion with you to make sure you are fully informed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does fee-only mean?2026-06-13T19:20:58+00:00
Fee-only means we are compensated exclusively by the fees our clients pay us directly. We do not earn commissions, sell financial products, or receive referral payments from third parties. Our only financial incentive is to do good work for you.
What is a fiduciary?2026-06-13T19:21:28+00:00

A fiduciary is legally required to act in your interest, not their own. Unlike many financial professionals who are only held to a “suitability” standard, we are legally obligated to recommend what is genuinely in your interest at all times.

Do I need to move my accounts to work with you?2026-08-06T16:14:48+00:00

Not necessarily. Fee-for-Planning clients can continue to manage their accounts on their own where they are. Generally, our Wealth Management clients custody their accounts at Charles Schwab. However, if you have retirement accounts with a current or former employer that can’t be moved, we may be able to manage those accounts where they are through our software partner, Pontera.

What’s the difference between your two services?2026-06-13T19:23:37+00:00

Both include the same comprehensive financial planning, the same access, and the same ongoing relationship. The difference is whether we manage your investment portfolio (Wealth Management) or you manage it yourself without our investment guidance (Fee-for-Planning).

How much does it cost?2026-06-13T19:23:56+00:00

Our minimum annual fee starts at $3,000. For Wealth Management clients, investment management fees are based on a tiered percentage of assets under management, starting at 1.00% on the first $1,000,000. Full pricing details are listed on this page.

Do you work with clients outside of Rochester?2026-06-13T19:24:14+00:00

Yes. While we are based in Rochester, NY, we work with clients across the state and can serve clients in other states depending on registration. We are a fully virtual firm, and all of our meetings can be conducted virtually.

How do I know if I’m the right fit?2026-06-13T19:24:31+00:00

We work with professionals and retirees whose financial lives have grown more complex than any single decision can solve. If you’re managing multiple accounts, navigating tax questions, and starting to feel like the DIY approach has a ceiling, we should talk.

Still Reading? Great.

If this sounds like what you’ve been looking for, the next step is simple. We’ll sit down for an introductory conversation, figure out whether the fit is right for both of us, and go from there. No pressure. No sales pitch. Just a conversation.
